I used to always bare shaft tune my arrows for my recurve. Typically nock point controlls up and down. Spine strength controlled left and right kick. I would start with a full length arrow, and keep cutting it shorter to get the correct spine. I was able to shoot a bare shaft like a dart at 10-15 yards. Now I am going to tune a compound bow.

Imo paper tuning with a recurve is a waste of time, especially if you're new. Too easy to get an incorrect reading since your form isn't repeatable yet. Just throw some 600 spine arrows on your bow and don't worry about tuning until you can put most of your arrows in a 8" group repeatedly at 20 yards. Then try bare shaft tuning.
