The Freer Gallery of Art is an art museum of the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C. focusing on Asian art. The Freer and the Arthur M. Sackler Gallery together form the National Museum of Asian Art in the United States. The Freer Gallery of Art opened to the public in 1923. It was the first art museum of the Smithsonian Institution. According to the original installation plan, American art occupied more than half of the gallery space. That is no longer true today. The Smithsonian Asian Museum, known also as Freer Museum after its patron, is a small museum dedicated to Asian arts. It also has a nice small garden that you can enjoy.
