Hello! I have a question about interpreting the number of 'available seats' on a given flight. For example, AUS to JFK there are 20 total available seats and no one on the waitlist (nonrevs), however when I view the airport standby list (confirmed passengers awaiting seat assignment) there are 26 passengers awaiting a seat assignment.

Aside from Delta employees traveling on standby, what other situations are people put on the standby list for international flights? Just to clarify, I'm referring to the standby list and not the upgrade lists. I know Diamond members sometimes can use their certificates for upgrades, but I don't think that's on standby.
