When I was looking at planters last summer, the JD planter shop suggested that the 1780 for my application would not be the wisest of choices. The carry wheels get VERY heavy when the planter is lifted and will start pushing dirt ahead of them in poor ground conditions.Posted December 8, 2005. I ran a 7200 and a 1750 6 row vacuum planter with a 6300 Deere tractor, ran the vacuum off Power Beyond, and the lift and markers were on seperate valves. I have a 1770 12 row now that is pulled with a 7810, vacuum is run on Power Beyond, and lift, fold, and markers on the 3 remotes.We had 1780 12/23 that we used for beans only for quite a while and it did a fine job, for the money that they are asking for them I think it would be a good move for a bean only planter. We traded our 1780 and a 16 row 1770 recently for a 1790 16-31. I think they are asking somewhere between 25 and 30 for the 1780.Farmington IL. The 1760 is a very simple, depndable planter. Easy to pull, easy to store, easy to maintain. The 1770 will be a very good planter as well.
